ARIZONA GIS ROUNDUP
RAMONA TRAINING and OPERATIONAL MATERIAL
Arizona GIS Roundup

AZ GIS Inventory Development of statewide Enterprise GIS will enable applications for homeland security, emergency response, wildland fire and support the program and business needs of agencies. The Ramona GIS Inventory is an easy to use, no cost resource which allows state/local/federal agencies to create a profile about their
organization, data holdings, distribution and management policies. Creation of an agency profile takes between 15-30 minutes and includes basic information about an organization and their data distribution and management policies. The system provides a very quick way to search these GIS profiles and discover geospatial data in Arizona.

Ramona is produced by the National States' Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) as a tool for states and their partners.

Note: By entering your information into the Ramona system you are NOT exposing your data, but simply allowing others to know what data your agency has created and maintains.

About Ramona

Ramona is produced by the National States' Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) as a tool for states and their partners. Its primary purpose is to track the status of GIS in US state and local government to aid the planning and building of Spatial Data Infrastructures. Ramona is designed to work in concert with Geospatial One-Stop. Conveniently, Public areas of Romona do not require registration. Please note that data on Ramona is not exposed but is simply a method allowing others to know what data your agency has created and maintains.

Reasons for Ramona - a Statewide GIS

Development of statewide Enterprise GIS data will enable applications for homeland security, emergency response, wildland fire and supports program and business needs of agencies. Currently, Arizona lacks a viable resource to facilitate a consolidated search for GIS data created by multiple agencies. Arizona GIS Inventory provides this resource at no cost and with very little time and energy required by federal/state/local entities. Creation of an agency profile takes between 15-30 minutes and includes an organization’s data distribution and management policies. Once the profile is completed, the system allows a very quick way to inventory individual data layers that takes just a minute or so per layer. Data inventory via the Ramona GIS Inventory system is far less painful and more efficient than creating standard FGDC metadata via ArcCatalog or some other method.
